Little girl camp

For the last year Bailey and Aubrey have talked about running a camp for little girls in the summer. This year they made their dream a reality. They sent this email to some families we know with young girls:

Hi everyone! This summer we (Bailey and Aubrey Porter) are planning to host a day camp for girls ages 4 to 9.  The camp will be held from 9-11:30 a.m. August 11th - 15th. We have been working for months on fun activities for the camp and would love to have your daughter(s) participate if they are available and interested.

We will have a theme for each day and will do themed activities and games and have fun snacks.  These are our plans right now for the daily themes:

MONDAY: Scientist Day 

TUESDAY: Makeover Day

WEDNESDAY: Outdoor Day

THURSDAY: Disney Day

FRIDAY: Pajama Party

The price for each day is $8. Your girls could participate on any or all of the days.

Bailey and Aubrey Porter

The girls scheduled the camp for the only free week we had the entire summer. That week didn't work for some of the families we had contacted, but they still had a nice group of super cute girls every day. The activities they prepared were creative and fun.  Here are a few pictures from the week:  

Monday: Scientist Day

 This was a day for budding scientists! As the girls arrived they were given some Glop to play with (solid until you manipulate it, then it turns liquid).

Next the group did an experiment outside with exploding plastic bags (vinegar and baking soda).

And another experiment in which they dropped pop rocks into a bottle of Sprite and then put a balloon on top. The chemical reaction created gases which blew up the balloon!

Next they made their treat by putting Rolos on pretzels and leaving them "baking" on tinfoil in the sun. Luckily it was a really hot day!

And to fill the remaining time they sang and danced to music from "Frozen."

Tuesday: Makeover Day

The girls were so excited to get the complete beauty treatment!  Nails painted,

foot soaks and facials (complete with cucumbers to combat puffy eyes),

makeup applied,

and hair curled.

And finally, a fashion show on a "runway", wearing dress up clothes from our dress up box!

Day 3 - Outdoors Day

Bailey and Aubrey were the Safari Leaders for our Wednesday adventure. We loaded the girls up and drove them to the Salmon Creek Trail.

Where we took off in search of interesting flowers and plants.

What we found, however, was tons of blackberries, growing wild all along the trail. We stopped and ate our fill of berries as we walked.

We found some really big and slimy slugs!

Poor Joseph - he was so outnumbered by girls this week. Maybe that is why he looks physically sick in the picture below? He was very patient and took most of the pictures on this day (he is a fabulous photographer).

When we returned to the house, we ate cups of "dirt," complete with gummy bear worms!

Day 4 - Disney Day

The night before, Aubrey drew an amazing Olaf for the "pin the nose on Olaf" game

The day started with Disney stories, read by "Minnie Mouse" Aubrey.

After awhile, a "fairy godmother" appeared.  She brought the first clue for a scavenger hunt.  

At the end of the scavenger hunt, Fairy Godmother Bailey tried the beautiful shoe on each of the girls.

Cute little Ady just wanted to hang onto the skirts of the "princess"!

And then it was onto the pin the nose on Olaf game!

Day 5 - Pajama Party Day

The day started with storytime in our big play tent

Then, time for games.

And lots of crafts, including a pillowcase they decorated with fabric markers.

No sleepover party is complete without the sleeping!

What a great week! I am proud of my girls for doing all the planning and pulling this off! I think they learned a lot about entertaining groups of kids. We all needed a nap every day after the girls left, but we enjoyed having the cute girls in our home every day.
