Let's go fly a kite!

This is embarrassing to admit, but three of our four children did not, until just recently, recall ever flying a kite. This is especially pathetic because we have purchased several kites over the years, and they sat unused in closets gathering dust. I guess our excuse has always been that it is difficult to find an open stretch with no trees or power lines in the way AND just the right amount of wind.

Well, when we were on the Oregon Coast in August, we found the perfect day and place for kite flying. We pulled over just north of Newport and found a wide open stretch of beach. It was windy (and a little cold), and was pretty darn ideal kite flying weather.

It was a memory moment.

First, we (okay, so it was Brandon) read the instructions on the Tinkerbell kite Aubrey received for her 9th birthday.
Then we walked down a little cliff and slid down a precarious sandy hill to get to a beautiful sandy beach.

We left our shoes by the hill and took off toward the ocean.
After a quick kite flying lesson, the kids easily got Tinkerbell into the air.

Although, quite a bit of running was involved!
Aubrey was very expert at kite flying, which is only right since it was her 9 year old birthday kite we were flying.
Brandon and Angela chose to walk the beach instead.
And here Dan is holding the "kite" - Bailey is Tinkerbell!
 Bailey being pensive.
We were so lucky to find the perfect spot to fly a kite that day.

And now our kids have flown a kite.  Whew - off the hook for another decade or so!
